Smart Balance Added to Russell 2000 and 3000 Indexes

PARAMUS, N.J., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Smart Balance, Inc. announced today that it has been included in the broad-market Russell 2000(R) and Russell 3000(R) indexes. Russell Investments reconstituted its comprehensive set of U.S. and global equity indexes on June 27th.

"We are pleased to be included in the Russell indexes, which will increase the visibility of Smart Balance to a broader range of potential investors," said Robert S. Gluck, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Smart Balance, Inc.

Annual reconstitution of Russell's U.S. indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total capitalization. Russell determines membership for its equity indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes.

Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. An industry-leading $4.4 trillion in assets currently are benchmarked to them.

The annual Russell reconstitution is usually one of the heaviest trading days in the U.S. equity market, as asset managers seek to reconfigure their portfolios to reflect the changes in the composition of the Russell's indexes. Trading volume in Smart Balance, Inc. on June 27 reflected the impact of this activity.
