China Buffet: A Restaurant for Everyone

No matter what corner of the globe you are from, everyone can most certainly find a dish to suit his or her palate at China Buffet in Fullerton, California. At 11,000 square feet, the massive upscale buffet restaurant can seat up to 400 people (including a private party room with the capacity to seat 100 people) and offers up to 150 items in its 6 different buffet bars.

According to owner Mr. Lin, one of his goals when opening the restaurant was to be sure there was enough food to cover everyone’s favorites. Whether you’re a meat lover, a vegetarian, or a health conscious diner, you’ll have a slew of options at China Buffet. And the records prove that this is true: China Buffet was recognized as one of the Top 100 Asian Fusion winners in the 5th annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA during the awards ceremony held in Las Vegas in January 2009 by Chinese Restaurant News.

Bring the Whole Family!

Because the dining room at China Buffet is so large in size, it wasn’t necessary for Mr. Lin to pack the space full with tables and chairs. There room is big enough to comfortably fit plenty of tables and chairs, the buffets, and still leave plenty of open space so customers don’t feel clustered.

The décor of the stunning restaurant can be described as casually modern. The walls are painted a light yellow and soft, classical music plays in the background. The tables have been painted a light yellow as well and have shiny, smooth surfaces. And to act as an accent, the benches and booths are green.

Additionally, there’s a party room for large family gathers. It is also equipped with television sets and a microphone for companies wishing to hold their meetings at the restaurant. The ceilings in this room are extraordinarily high, giving the space an even larger and more open feeling.

Fresh Variety

China Buffet offers a mix of Americanized Chinese cuisine and a large salad and dessert buffet bar. The staff is proudly represented by five very talented and experienced chefs. They are capable of preparing a number of diverse dishes using a variety of cooking methods.

The food at China Buffet can be described as lighter than the standard Chinese American fare. The flavors come together perfectly and the sauces are never too sweet or too spicy. While Mr. Lin describes everything on the menu as being “well received,” the most popular dishes are the Pot Stickers, Stir-fried Asparagus, Szechuan Shrimp, Orange Chicken, Green Onion Pancakes, and Mongolian BBQ. Additionally, there is an extensive salad bar unlike something you would find in an average buffet restaurant.

And as people become more and more conscious about what they are eating, China Buffet is ready to please with their extensive list of healthy menu options. The chefs bring out the natural tastes of the ingredients, without using too much oil or too many condiments. The most popular of the healthy dishes is the Mixed Vegetables, which is a beautiful mix of the freshest vegetables available. Asparagus and Tofu dishes are very popular among diners. Overall, however, all of the dishes are prepared with little oil, salt, and no MSG and all of the sauces are homemade.

Another reason with China Buffet is so popular is because of the freshness of the food. According to Mr. Lin, “Quality comes first. We never stock too much food so it never spoils.” The freshness of the food produces the most flavorful dishes and allows the chefs to prepare the dishes without added ingredients.

In Good Hands

Customers can rest assure that they will be taken care of at China Buffet. The servers are highly trained and knowledgeable about all of the buffet items. “I teach the servers to treat the customers how they would want to be treated while dining in a restaurant,” says Mr. Lin. “We try our best to make every customer feel at home while dining in the restaurant.”

Meetings are held to discuss any highs and lows that occur during operation. All customer compliments and complaints are taken seriously and reviewed at this time. Mr. Lin has great relationships with his staff members and they in turn have great relationships with the regular customers.

According to Mr. Lin…

Mr. Lin plans to continue making improvements to his restaurant. He wants to add more delicacies to the menu and open even more restaurants in the area. As of now, his restaurants reach as far as Ranch Cucamonga.

Lin came to the United States back in 1997. Previously, he worked as a teacher in China. He was inexperienced when it came to working in a restaurant, but he soon picked up the skills he needed. He started as a busboy and later moved up the ranks to chef. He was actually a chef at China Buffet before he took over the restaurant in 2007. And since then, Mr. Lin has opened quite a few additional restaurants. Together, he and his partner own a total of five restaurants.

Lin’s advices? “Nothing comes east. You can only achieve your goals one at a time. Be diligent, patient, confident, persistent, positive, and harmonious. Enjoy what you do.”
