Lights out for restaurants?

Two competing proposals over daylight saving time could have an impact on the restaurant industry in Colorado.

The Legislature this year may address one bill that would have Colorado run permanently on daylight saving time, and another that would have Colorado permanently stay on standard time.

Restaurants contacted by the Denver Daily News yesterday seemed relatively indsifferent to the two competing pieces of legislation, though some restaurant owners said additional daylight could have a slight positive impact on business.

Less daylight might slightly negatively impact business initially, but because the change would be permanent, business likely wouldn't be affected long-term, said restaurant owners.

Pete Meersman, president and chief executive of the Colorado Restaurant Association, said his organization has not yet examined what sort of impact a change to daylight saving time might have on the industry, but he doubts restaurants would feel any pinch.
