First Malaysian cook show In US to Air in 2005

SHOWTIME: Zam's program 'Malaysian Invasion' will feature the country's cui-sine and several East-West fusion dishes Malaysian celebrity chef Zam is set to promote the country as a gourmet paradise – with a cook show on American television. The Malaysian Invasion cook show is the first by a Malaysian chef in the United States. Zam, 34, said the pilot program was in the final stages of editing and was expected to be ready by the end of this month. “The cook show is scheduled to go on the air in the United States by the end of this year,” he said after giving a demonstration at Britain’s premier food show, IFE 2005. The Terengganu-born chef said he had chosen the Malaysia, Truly Asia soundtrack as the back-ground music for the show. He said he would promote Malaysian food and introduce a fusion of Malaysian and American cuisine. “For instance, a concoction of East-West delights such as ice cream goreng, Italian fettuccini with Chinese mush-room strips and curry leaves, or mango salad dipped in preserved dried plum powder will be a hit with the Americans,” he said. Zam said negotiations were still underway to broadcast his show over the Food Network TV station, a 24-hour national channel on cooking. He described the project as his biggest break. ? “If 10% of the US population (of 265 million) watched my show, I would have done my part to promote Malaysia.” Zam has been one of the hottest stars on Maylasian Television, wowing food lovers with his no-nonsense and ultra-tasty recipes He was also head chef at the Asian Fusion Restaurant in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, before coming to London.
