The Los Angeles-based writer was born in Taipei, and grew up in Downey, California. Carl's family immigrated to the United States when he was 8, in 1980. After completing his graduate studies at Northwestern University, he worked as a transportation analyst in a Chicago consulting firm. But Carl always wanted to write.
In his first book, Finding Chinese Food in Los Angeles, Carl illustrated a landscape of Chinese food that is far more enriching than the tired routine of Moo-shoo Pork and the Two-item Combo. After completing his research with another book entitled, Chinese Food Finder: Los Angeles, Carl has next ventured to the east coast and wrote: Chinese Food Finder: New York; and, most recently, to the San Francisco Bay Area to conquer yet another of Chinese cuisine, to rave reviews.
