Who’s Cooking With Noodles

Twice a month, Joseph Poon, celebrity chef and owner of award winning Joseph Poon’s Asian Fusion Restaurant, gathers his flock of devotees of Pan Asian cuisine and escorts them to the heart of Philadephia’s Chinatown District to learn about the secret art of Chinese noodle-making. As a special treat, students in Joseph’s morning classes get to visit two amazing noodle factories in Chinatown and taste fresh hand-pulled noodles. This has become very popular, as it is the first time this ancient Chinese culinary art is being demonstrated to outsiders. Then, the real fun begins – Chef Poon personally teaches students how to make Needle Noodles. The lesson takes on a festive flair as students receive a full lunch of dinner of the noodle dishes they learn to prepare, finished off with Low-Fat Toasted Sesame Seed Oreo Cookie Cheesecake with Fresh Fruit and Chocolate Mango Coulis. The dinner is accompanied by Qingdao beer. Chef Poon knows that a true appreciation of noodles requires more than a trip to the noodle factory. He hosts a trip to an Asian grocery store, where he shows students how to purchase the ingredients needed to make the dishes and amaze students with facts about the secrets of Asian fruits, vegetables, herbs, and, of course, noodles.
