DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Sara Lee?, the makers of the best-selling bread in the country, is expanding its successful Soft & Smooth bread line to include new Sara Lee Soft & Smooth Honey made with Whole Grain White Bread. Debuting in stores on Dec. 27, 2007, its sweet taste of real honey combined with whole grain nutrition satisfies taste buds while giving consumers a good source of whole grain (10 grams per two slice serving). This new bread offers:
“Sara Lee Soft & Smooth Honey made with Whole Grain White Bread gives consumers the best of both worlds – a soft and smooth texture that pleases tried-and-true white bread lovers and the goodness of whole grain,” said Tim Zimmer, vice president, Sara Lee U.S. Bakery. “In fact, this new bread’s unique honey flavor ranked very high in taste tests with teenagers, who can be the pickiest of bread eaters.”
Health professionals recommend most Americans consume 48 grams, or three servings, of whole grain daily to help maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of stroke, diabetes and some types of cancer. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the average American consumes less than one serving of whole grain per day. One two-slice sandwich made with Sara Lee Soft and Smooth Honey made with Whole Grain White Bread provides 20 percent of the recommended servings of whole grain per day.
“Even though many consumers are looking for whole grain products, we know many Americans eat white bread because they won’t sacrifice the taste and texture they prefer,” said Frances Coletta, Ph.D., RD, director of health and wellness, Sara Lee Corp. “Our new Soft & Smooth bread is a great solution offering consumers good tasting choices for increasing their whole grain intake with the extra touch of honey.”
Other breads included in the Soft & Smooth bread line are: Sara Lee Soft & Smooth made with Whole Grain White Bread, Sara Lee Soft & Smooth 100% Whole Wheat Bread and Sara Lee Soft & Smooth 100% Honey Whole Wheat Bread. Sara Lee has seen success with its bread line, particularly the Soft & Smooth made with Whole Grain White Bread, which since its launch in 2005 has become the best-selling loaf in the country.
