Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Premieres in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Located across the street from the Roosevelt Hotel and steps from the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market opened its doors today at the intersection of Hollywood & Sycamore. The new grocery market will bring local jobs and fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices to the neighborhood.

During the opening ceremony, Fresh & Easy CEO Tim Mason officially opened the store by placing his hands in wet cement and cutting a filmstrip before customers entered the store. Paris Hilton and Marilyn Monroe look a-likes made cameos and joined in the opening celebration. The Children's Hospital of Los Angeles was selected by store employees to receive a donation from Fresh & Easy and representatives from the organization were presented with a check during the ceremony.

"Opening in such an iconic neighborhood is exciting," said Mason. "Everyone wants fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices and we think Fresh & Easy will be a great addition to the neighborhood."

Fresh & Easy currently has 33 grocery markets open throughout Southern California and in Nevada and Arizona. The company is a subsidiary of U.K.-based Tesco, one of the world's largest international retailers, which has invested $2 billion over five years in Fresh & Easy.

Each Fresh & Easy store employs approximately 20 to 30 people. Fresh & Easy intends all store employees will work 20 hours a week or more, and be eligible for comprehensive healthcare and other benefits. Entry-level positions will pay well over the minimum wage, starting at $10 an hour in California, and offer a quarterly bonus.

Fresh & Easy's private brand has no artificial colors or flavors, no added trans fats, and only uses preservatives where absolutely necessary. The company also offers a range of national brands and authentic products. All food is delivered daily and date coded so customers know it is fresh.
