STILLWATER, Minn.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cub Foods announced today that it has begun making the switch to canola oil, a trans fat-free cooking oil, in all its delis. The change to canola oil includes an extra, added benefit: a reduction of saturated fat, which provides customers with better choices to support their ever-changing lifestyles. The transition is expected to be complete in all Cub Foods stores by Labor Day. Signage informing customers of the change will be displayed at all Cub Foods deli counters.
“As a leading grocery retailer, Cub Foods consistently looks for ways to improve our customers’ lives by offering them better food options,” said Mike Witt, Vice President of Merchandising for Cub Foods. “Moving to a new, zero trans fat cooking oil for our deli-prepared foods helps us better meet our customers’ needs and allows our customers to enjoy the same great tasting deli selections in a healthier way.”
The transition to canola cooking oil complements Cub Foods’ “Cub Fresh” program and is part of SUPERVALU’s “Premium Fresh & Healthy” initiative, a strategy designed to enhance the customer’s shopping experience by emphasizing great-tasting, high-value products that are easy to prepare, easy to find and that delight the customer. “As a grocery retailer, we know that when it comes to food, offering healthier options is important, and at Cub Foods we’re all for surprising and delighting our customers with food choices that improve and enhance their lives,” Witt said. “We’re committed to consistently reviewing products offered to provide the best, freshest quality products possible for our customers.”
