The Owner

Lirong Chen was born in the Eastern coastal Fujian Province of China and came to the United States in 1995. While residing in the city of Leominster, Chen first stepped into the food industry as a utility man. After serving in numerous culinary roles, Mr. Chen finally took over the bankrupt Gold Bowl Chinese Restaurant in 2003. Since then, the town has witnessed the renaissance of Gold Bowl.

After a series of market surveys and analysis, Chen turned the restaurant into a fast-growing enterprise by improving the food quality and customer service. With his dedication to his beloved career, the restaurant weathered numerous hardships and bravely embraced each challenge to better the establishment.

“Any business will encounter some difficulties; I think it’s good for the development of the business, and I will learn much from those unlucky experiences and try to find out the best solution,” said Chen.

In Focus

Take-out restaurants always feature a versatile menu, ranging from appetizers, soup, poultry and other kinds of appetizing items; some takeout restaurants even provide a variety of food options from different culinary backgrounds. To be frank, by simply looking at Gold Bowl’s menu, you may not find any surprising items. However, if you try any of the dishes at this unique restaurant, you will find the menu is not so ordinary at all.

Drawing on his expertise and combining an abundance of innovative inspirations, the owner added extra flare to his menu by successfully incorporating Sichuan and Hunan cuisines, two of the eight schools of culinary art in China.

In response to the current “going green” craze, many Chinese restaurants began to launch healthy dish offerings. Gold Bowl is no exception, providing a wide selection of nutrition-friendly dishes. Additionally, steamed food with little oil, low sodium, and no MSG are provided to help customers enjoy a healthier dining experience.

Among a wealth of notable dishes, the Creamed Prawn receives highest acclaim. This is an enticing creation and calls for magnificent cooking skills to prepare. At first, the chef removes the shell of prawn and cuts it in half, wraps the yolk around, then fries the prawn to a golden brown that makes it crunchy and crispy outside. With a touch of cream on top, the dish perfectly fuses the fried shrimp and cream flavors.

The patrons seem to agree that the restaurant has something special cooking in their kitchen. One happy customer wrote: “Everything had a rich flavor as opposed to just a greasy flavor like many other local places. It was one of those meals where you're stuffed, but you keep putting food into your mouth just so you can keep tasting it.” This clipping, a sample of the restaurant’s numerous accolades, is a great embodiment of how well the food has been received by the community. Bankrupt in 2003, now Gold Bowl has risen anew, stronger than before.
