TOPIC: Reuters reports that researchers from the National Institutes of Health have documented the results of a six-year study indicating that the number of Americans with high blood pressure (hypertension) is rising. Compared with a previous study ending in 1994, in which 24 percent of Americans had hypertension, 29 percent in the most recent study have the condition. A growing rate of obesity is cited as the number one factor in the increase. "Prehypertension", or slightly elevated blood pressure, is reported to be affecting an additional 30 percent of the population.
