Joy and Peace at Lucky Garden

Joy and Peace at Lucky Garden

The majority of people living in Rochester, New York choose Lucky Garden when looking to hold celebrations and events. This is a newly launched upmarket eatery that the locals and the surrounding community regard as a “must go” restaurant when they are looking to satisfy their cravings for delicacies in a relaxing environment. Situated on 368 Jefferson Road, Lucky Garden is a hidden treasure located amid the University of Rochester, several colleges, and a number of businesses. It combines excellent American & Asian cuisine under one roof. With such a convenient location, this eatery is hard to miss.

The 6,000 square foot space can seat 288 diners. It’s obvious to Lucky Garden’ s frequent customers that the owner, Song Lew, not only excels in cooking and restaurant management, but that she also has an eye for architectural and interior design. The establishment was refurnished with luxurious modern furniture after she took it over in March, 2010. The restaurant’s wall, glass windows, color schemes, dishware, and silverware were all designed or chosen by her. Elegant flowers, paintings, and other classical ornaments neatly fill the dining area. Upon entering Lucky Garden, you will find elegant and graceful music sound wafting throughout the restaurant.

“Is it a restaurant or a hotel?” Song Lew says, “BOTH!” The interior elements all come together to give the restaurant a very modern, fashionable, and romantic style, that is never over fancy. What attracts customers is the homey relaxing feeling here. “Our comfortable interior setting and lighting effect allows customers to really plunge into the relaxing environment.”

Fast Forward 2010

Lucky Garden has molded itself into one of Rochester’s most popular restaurants by being dedicated to quality offerings and attentive service.

“Just like music and art, delicacies have no boundaries,” Song Lew says. She mentions the nobleness of French cuisine, the exoticness of Thai cuisine, delicateness of Japanese cuisine, and classicalness of Chinese cuisine when pointing out their different characteristics. At Lucky Garden, the owner and chefs have been making art out of Western and Asian fusion.

Some of the all star line up of dishes includes Cantonese Dim Sum, Pee Pa Tofu, Clay Pot Chicken, Duck Basil, Evil Jungle Prince Pork, and Fried Rice. Those looking for something have their own Thai, Japanese, and American lists, including Phad Thai, freshly made sushi, and steak.

While 40% of the names on the menu are the kind of common fare you will be able to find in other restaurants, the tastes sure aren’t. You’ll be absolutely blown away by the symphony of flavors in each remarkable offering. The chefs use their experience and channel Song Lew’s creativity, turning bland entrées into unforgettable dishes.

All About Service

The owner has positioned Lucky Garden as an upscale American-style Chinese restaurant, which is a revolutionary concept in the traditional Chinese restaurant industry. Thus, everything must meet very high standards.

Deluxe décor and high quality cuisine requires strong attention to the tiniest details, so that’s what Lucky Garden’s staff makes sure to do. They are required by Song Lew to always be ready to provide each customer with impeccably quick service. Their attentive service extends beyond the dining area—staff members even offer free snacks to those waiting to be seated.

Because of this positive attitude, Song Lew has managed to build quite a few friendships with customers and, because of this, they have become loyal patrons. To show her appreciation, she serves customers with high quality Chinese Lychee tea and presents them with some lucky bamboo as a gift.

The restaurant’s interior is well-maintained. Song Lew is the first to admit, “I totally understand the importance of keeping a restaurant clean and uncluttered. Each day, a thorough cleaning is conducted to make sure every corner is spotless.”

As word of mouth spread, business grew and now the restaurant is always jam-packed with customers. Even during this economic downturn and facing fierce competition, Lucky Garden is still lucky, just like its name. It not only has stayed afloat, but its business has increased. What is the secret? Song Lew tells ARN her secret, “Our quality has never dissipated even as the number of people dining here has skyrocketed. We never mass-produce but instead make each individual order to order.”

Song Lew’s Story…

Every good restaurant has a knowledgeable and hardworking owner behind the scenes. Song Lew is distinguished in many different spheres: sewing, cooking, and business management. Before opening Lucky Garden, she once worked in a clothing factory, supermarket, large restaurants, and even ran her own gift shop. From this experience she learned the fundamentals of finance, expanded her social circle, and gained a lot of practical experience. In 2007, Song Lew opened Asian Buffet, her first restaurant in the US. Due to a variety of reasons, she decided to close its doors a while later but was not discouraged because she knew that God had something even more grand in store for her. In early 2010, she took over the present establishment, and later renamed it Lucky Garden.

“I’m very grateful for all the chances that I have received here in America. People here are very helpful and have been very kind to me. I love being around people, and I appreciate their love for my food,” says Song Lew, “I’ll try my best to continue to offer them more tasty offerings.” As an active member of the community, she often gives back to the community by providing food to certain organizations and needy people.

Song Lew is an ambitious and pleasant woman who runs a tight ship. Through her efforts, Lucky Garden has quickly become one of the premier destinations for Chinese cuisine in all of Rochester. Customers are satisfied with their food and service, and they keep on coming. Because of this, the restaurant has a bright future. “Thanks to God’s guidance and help, I’ve been able to accomplish a lot and am optimistic about the direction of my restaurant.”
