Global wireless location-based service provider TeleNav Inc. has released data revealing which brands consumers are seeking out most while on the road.
The top brands were identified by analyzing the frequency of searches within one of the company's mobile GPS navigation applications. TeleNav has more than 17 million subscribers.
"Our GPS navigation users are in their vehicles, actively looking for a specific service or business to drive to," said Ky Tang, director of marketing for TeleNav. "Our analysis of the businesses our users are actively searching for helps brands understand the behavior and preferences of on-the-go consumers."
Six of the top 10 most searched restaurants in the system are quick-service chains. McDonald's was the most searched establishment, with more than twice as many hits as Subway, which was second.
Taco Bell, KFC and Burger King rounded out the top five, respectively.
Travelers needing a coffee-on-the-go pick me up searched most for Starbucks, which had more than five times the hits for second place Dunkin' Donuts.
Other searches analyzed included hotels, retail stores and home improvement centers.
TeleNav's service providers and partners include AT&T, Bell Mobility, Boost Mobile, China Mobile, Cincinnati Bell, Ford Motor Company, NII Holdings, Rogers, Sprint Nextel, Telcel, T-Mobile UK, T-Mobile USA, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Vivo Brazil.
