Restaurateurs Gather at Top Chinese Restaurant 100 Awards

Newark, Calif. (January 6, 2011) – Chinese Restaurant News (CRN) will reveal its 7th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Ranking in San Francisco on Monday, January 10. Celebrity Chef Martin Yan will host the first-ever public cooking show with top Chinese chefs on Sunday to kick off the Festivities at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.

It is the first time that the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Award will be held in the Bay Area. Winners of the Top 10 highest ranking Chinese restaurants will walk the red carpet to receive the honor. It is also the first time that the event will include a public cooking demonstration showcasing Chinese signature dishes. “I’m happy to see the Chinese chefs come out of their restaurant kitchens to cook in front of the public, and in front of my film crew. As I often put it, Yan Can Cook, so can you!” said Chef Martin Yan.

This year's theme is “The Future of Chinese Dining and Its 150-Year History in America. The Top 100 award show features a culinary show, food carving, seminars, and a dine-around-town event in San Francisco, where Chinese cuisine originated in the U.S. “Chinese Restaurant News introduced the first Top 100 Chinese Restaurants award in 2004. It has since become a tradition for Chinese restaurant folks in the U.S to gather at this event every year,” said Kung Yu, the magazine publisher.

The award show welcomes international chefs from San Francisco and all around the world including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada & Australia. The participation of the San Francisco Bay Area's Asian Chefs Association and culinary schools will turn the event into a platform of international culinary exchange, showcasing the diversity and prosperity of Chinese cuisine.

From suburban buffets to high-end restaurants, Chinese cuisine has become a fixture of the American daily dining scene. On an average day, Americans consume 2.5 million meals prepared in Chinese restaurants. With over $21 billion in annual sales and 45,000 Chinese eateries in the U.S, Chinese food has become part of the American diet.
